Winter series Part 1

Winter is coming!!

As we all know winter is fast approaching. So glad for the super-hot weather (1oo+) degrees to disappear. Even though I love the hot weather, enough is enough already. I am so ready to cuddle in a comfy chair with a nice cup of hot cocoa and a great book to read. What will completely make that vision a reality is having an equally warm blanket to snuggle under. With that being said, I will be introducing a winter afghan series. To kick it off, I have been working on an afghan that I have titled: Warm to warm scrap-afghan. I chose the name because the colors I have put into the pattern is dark, light, and goes to dark colors again. I used a simple granny square pattern.

WIP granny square blanket 1

Not a good picture of the starting point. I used a 5mm hook and acrylic yarn throughout the pattern. The beginning color is dark brown, then dark blue and transitions into green. In the pattern it calls for a consistent count of three between each space with a chain 2. When I reach the corner the pattern consist of two groups of three and a chain 3 between the two groups, this creates a corner.

This picture shows the colors after the green. This section has dark pink, variegated yarn (light blue, and brown).

From this picture of the afghan you can see the color change from warm to cool with a light pink color, gray, light blue, and white after the variegated yarn. Now the colors will change by using darker colors such as red. This is part 1 of the series, I have not completed the whole thing but pictures will be posted soon.

Thanks to everyone who reads this blog, I hope to post more stories consistently. Look for the other parts to the series as well as other surprises I have in store.

New OBSESSION!!!!

Hello Dudes and Dudettes,

Sorry that it takes me so long to update my post I am trying to get on a schedule for that. But anyway I have found a new crochet obsession and that is with cases, cozies etc. So far I have made two of them that I was either trying to find a pattern for or make one myself from scratch which I finally pulled off.

The first one was made for my windows phone, I did not make it quite as perfect as I wanted to because it was my first time do that type of pattern. It was made in baby blue acrylic  4 ply yarn and white acrylic 4 ply yarn. For this case I chained about 10 chains, the base (around the phone) was done in dc (double crochet) until the pattern reached the camera lens which was then done in sc (single crochet). The bunny ears was done in sc around until I reached the desired length and shape which is about four rounds.

The next case was made for a tablet specifically a kindle tablet which my sister just had to have a new case for hers. This one actually came out better than I expected with no bumps in the road (lol). It was made with white 4 ply acrylic and black 4 ply acrylic. I decided to put a black and white bow on it instead of some types of ears because it just be weird if the tablet was not held the way the ears were pointing. It was then trimmed in black and I was complete. I think I had to chain about 18 chains for the tablet because the yarn stretch and I wanted it to be tight on the kindle.

You can see the different in the cases because the tablet case has more edging around it (this is when i learned how to do that) compared to the phone case.

I want to say thanks to all my followers and to anyone who read this post. It was very fun making these so I probably have different ones in the near future. And no I have not forgotten about the d.I.y project that I posted to hang in there with me and when i get it perfect it will be posted.

See ya later dudes and dudettes, until next time!!!!

I holla!!

The Little Yellow Duck project/day is tomorrow!

I feel very sorry I came little bit late with this post and pattern but thinking as this is so very easy one, and fast one to do, you might still have time to make at least one little duck and make someone randome happy tomorrow.

What is the Little Yellow Duck Project?

The Little Yellow Duck Project involves people around the world handcrafting little yellow duck gifts as random acts of kindness that are left in public places for others to find. A special tag on each one invites the finder to take their gift home to brighten their day and to visit this website to register where they found their gift. We hope that the stories and information found here will encourage them to pledge their own random act of kindness by registering to donate blood, bone marrow, organs tissues.”

D.I.Y DAY…Do it Yourself

Hi dudes and dudettes (lol),

Sorry it has been a while since my last post. I have been trying to come up with new ideas and ways to make my blog more appealing. So today is D.I.Y DAY for my blog. As you all know this blog is centered around all things crafty and not just my crafts… I love everything that can be done by hand and it turns out absolutely beautiful and useful….

The other day I saw a video (because I was bored and was looking to make something new) about changing a composition book into a day planner that suit your needs and no one else. I don’t know if anyone is familiar with Filofax, in which people make scrapbooks sometimes out of file folders or other material and they are sold at a very high price….Instead of buying one you can make one yourself that you would actually use and customize it the way you over and over again. The video I chose it a good one and there are three parts to it, she goes into great detail explaining how to do it and what items you may need. Like I said you do not have to use what is shown but you can make it the way you want.

Tips:

  • The sheer wax that is used for the cover is optional
  • Most of the tabs and folders you can make your self with dividers, folders, envelops, etc.
  • The washy tape that is used is optional, you can just use glue
  • Also when cutting, you do not need a paper cutter because scissors

     works as well sometimes better

  • You don’t have to use just the black and white composition books, this technique can be used for spiral books, photo albums, etc.

Below is the link to the video that include instructions, i will soon post my own version of the book when i have time to shop for the materials…Good luck with your crafting adventure and remember to have fun while doing it.

A Crafter Craze!!!

Hi Guys and Gals,

It’s been a while since the last post just wanted to show a few things that I have been up to. I promise to update a little a bit more often and actually explain what it is. For right now i am giving a very short neat description (lol). The first picture is a tablet tote done in purple and yellow yarn worsted weight, the pattern was very simple (will share in future). The second and third picture is a simple makeup case done in blue simply softy yarn and a light blue worsted weight yarn using a 5mm hook and the stitching was alternating single crochet and half double crochet. The next  two picture is an outfit made from gray and white worsted weight yarn. It is made to fit a newborn that is about 7 lbs. I can post that pattern in the future as well and it was done with a 5mm hook and completely double crochet through out. The last one is a picture of four headbands that I am planning on selling. I followed a pattern for the headbands and the flowers I did myself, i have to make a few more and the pattern is really simple. It done in double crochet and depending on the width of the headband would be your starting chain.

So far these few projects were some of the most fun i have had crocheting because it really brought me out of my comfort zone from the usually hat or glove. Thank you for reading my blog and if you have any questions or comments please feel free to email me or leave them below.

Thanks!!! Love Crafty Scene
